Abstract: For supporting a production planning in a large scale production system, a generalized simulation model and a simulation system, named LSIP, are proposed. The importance of and difficulties in a "global production planning", that is, a planning with the view covering entire production facilities and sufficiently long planning horizon are first discussed. Then the discussion is centered on a material flow based simulation system which supports a global production planning activity. A generalized simulation model with which a large-scale system is capable to be handled is proposed, then a system realization concept and methodology is proposed for providing sufficient capability to execute a very large-scale simulation with high speed, which is essential requirements for a global production planning activity support. It is shown through an actual example using a real LSI production system data that the performance requirements of a realized simulator are fulfilled.
