Abstract: The examination of Korean language problems under the two different political systems (Republic of Korea or South Korea, and Democratic People's Republic of Korea or North Korea) shows a pattern of divergence of national language by political system. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the characteristics of current language policies in North Korea as they have evolved since the division of the Korean Peninsula.
